Okay, Caldera High. Newest school in the district, right? Principal gets "Administrator of the Year." Sounds great...until you dig a millimeter below the surface.
So, Chris Boyd gets an award for opening another new school. He did it three times, apparently. Bend-La Pine Schools officials are patting themselves on the back, MidOregon Credit Union throws in a measly $500 check (seriously? that's it?), and everyone's supposed to be impressed. Give me a break.
What does "Administrator of the Year" even mean anymore? Is it just a participation trophy for showing up? I mean, opening a school is complex, sure. But is it excellent? Or just… his job?
The press release says he "built not just schools, but communities." Oh, please. Last time I checked, communities are built by people, not administrators. He probably just signed off on the budget for the pep rallies. Caldera High principal named administrator of the year
And what about the actual education happening inside those "communities"? Are the kids learning anything? Are they prepared for the real world? Or are we just handing out awards for bureaucratic competence?
Speaking of hype… the Brooks Caldera 8. Supposedly a trail running shoe. Turns out, it's about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.

"Not the best choice if you want a true max-cushion experience," says the review. Well, no sh*t, Sherlock. "Shock absorption and stack height fall short." You don't say? And apparently, if you have wide feet, you're SOL. Cut in half: Brooks Caldera 8 Review (2025)
This is the problem with everything these days. Constant marketing, endless promises, and a product that doesn't deliver. It's all Caldera Hype, no Caldera Substance.
It's like they're selling us a dream, and we're buying it, even though we know it's probably garbage. Are we that desperate for something to believe in? Or are we just too lazy to do our research?
Look, maybe Chris Boyd is a great guy. Maybe he's a saint. Maybe he spends his weekends volunteering at soup kitchens and rescuing kittens from trees. I don't know. And frankly, I don't care. The point is, the "Administrator of the Year" award is a joke. It's a meaningless pat on the back that distracts from the real issues facing our schools.
And what are those issues? Underpaid teachers, overcrowded classrooms, standardized testing that sucks the soul out of education… the list goes on. But hey, at least the principal got a $500 check.
And offcourse, the silence about the cookie policy on the Camp Caldera website is deafening. What information are they collecting exactly, and why? Are we just blindly clicking "I agree" to everything these days, without even knowing what we're signing away?
It's all smoke and mirrors, folks. A carefully constructed narrative designed to make us feel good about a system that's fundamentally broken. They expect us to swallow this garbage, and honestly, I'm sick of it.
